Screening: The Opposition // One World Film Festival

THE OPPOSITION (Hollie Fifer / Australia / 2016)

The screening is free of charge. However, registration is required: https://www.oneworld.cz/2017/brussel-registration/11

A real-life David and Goliath story is unleashed with high levels of suspense and intrigue when a respected community leader engages in a desperate fight to prevent the demolition and forced displacement of his coastal Papua New Guinea community. An Australian developer is trying to forcibly evict them with the aim of replacing the locals modest dwellings with a luxurious hotel resort and harbour. The displacement has no legal foundation, but it seems that no one is interested in the native communitys rights, not even the local politicians. This investigative documentary about defenceless inhabitants fighting for their homes is filled with suspense and unexpected twists.

The screening will be followed by a discussion with Sylvia Kay, researcher at the Transnational Institute, Manuel Eggen of FIAN Belgium and Paige Morrow, Head of Brussels Operations at Frank Bold.
